Phantom D179 - Nukes (day 28)

It is not uncommon to find errors in dialogues of comic strips. Here's an example from this strip. In the first panel, it should have been ... If 'They' stole...

Phantom D179 - Nukes (day 21)

In the two central panels, dialogues were not very legible, so had to type them by hand. The font used may not be fitting well but this was all I could think of in a hurry. If you can suggest a better matching font, please do.

Mandrake Sunday Strip 007 - The Treasure Hunt (week 1)

Here comes the first episode of Mandrake Sunday story S007 - 'The Treasure Hunt'. (Original publication dates: 5 September 1937 to 20 March 1938).

The credit for this sunday goes to Venkit who sent me at least four different versions. I was already having another (magazine) version so all in all five different sets of scans are used to produce this Mandrake story.

1. Australian Women's Weekly - Full pages in English but low resolution.
2. Tiff file format pages - High resolution but bad quality. Many pages missing.
3. Coloured Spanish Magazine version - Very good quality but not in a language most of us can read.
4. English coloured version posted by him on Balaji's blog - Many pages are translation jobs from Swedish or some other language and hence not the original Lee Falk dialogues.
5. English magazine version (with me) - Many pages missing.

Phantom D179 - Nukes (day 6)

Phantom daily 179 - 'Nukes' will continue to come six days a week, Monday to Saturday on this blog. On Sundays, I am going to post a super classic and hitherto elusive Mandrake Sunday story. It is very early sunday S007 - 'The Treasure Hunt' by Lee Falk and Phil Davis.

Good quality English language scans of this story are not available so far. But thanks to Venkit, now we get a chance to read an authentic version of original dialogues in very good quality. More about it tomorrow with the first installment of the story.

Here we continue with this interesting Phantom story.

Another Phantom Daily Strip Colored

Hello friends. Back after a long time.

More than a year ago, upon suggestion of a friend, I had started working on coloring of a Phantom daily strip by Falk and Barry. It was strip No. "D179 - Nukes" (publication dates 21 June 1993 to 13 Nov 1993).

This is a strip from post Indrajal era (which had ceased publication in 1990 as we already know). So it was never published in Indrajal Comics. Moreover as per trend in those days, newspapers published daily strip only in black and white format. Hence, it can be assumed that this strip was never published in color anywhere in the world.

It is a long strip spanning 21 weeks. That means a total of 126 individual strips. I started working and a good part of the project was completed smoothly within a month and half after start. And then the hurdles started coming. First some health issues and then some new developments in professional life kept me away from comics world. The coloring project took it's place in a deep freezer (but it was never buried).
